- Uses of cements, bases and liners: crowns, bridges,
thermal insulators, root canal sealers, pulp capping.
- Bases are used as: thermal insulators.
- What do thermal insulators do? Protect pulp.

IRM (Intermediate Restorative Material) I |
A. Zinc Phosphate |

Kind to pulp I, B, C, |
B. Zinc Polycarboxylate |
Durelon B |
C. Glass Ionomers |
Most technique sensitive C |
D. High Strength Bases |
Acts as an obtundent I |
E. Temporary fillings |
Can not be used under composites I |
F. Low Strength Bases |
Not Kind to Pulp A |
G. Cavity liners |
Powder = zinc oxide, liquid = phosphoric acid

H. Varnishes |
Temporary bond I |
I. Zinc Oxide Eugenol |
Has potential for chemical adhesion, actually bind
with tooth structure B |
Increase in powder it is used as a cement not a
base D |
Theoretically stimulates secondary dentin
formation F |

Calcium hydroxapetite, used under any restoration
G |
Seals dentinal tubules, prevents discoloration
under amalgams, not used under composites, barrier H |

Powder = zinc oxide, liquid =polyacrylic acid &
H2O B |
Powder = alumino silicate glass, liquid= similar to
polyacrylic acid C |
Dycal F |
Has potential for chemical reaction- bonds to
calcium in teeth C |
Prevents secondary decay C |
Resins dissolved in solvents used under shallow
amalgams H |
- Indirect pulp capping: layer between pulp and
amalgam.
- Direct pulp capping: layer on hemorrhage, directly
on pulp.
- Resin Cements are used for: Porcelain Veneers.
- Hybrid cements are a combo of: resins and glass
ionomers.
