  1. Pit & Fissure sealants have less filler than composites.
  1. What is the use of sealants?

Act as barrier to prevent decay.

  1. Why do sealants have less filler than composites?

So they will flow.

  1. Sealants have mechanical retention, what causes this?

Acid etching the enamel.

  1. Sealants will fail if areas are not kept dry during placement. True
  2. People who have been decay free for years may receive sealants. False
  3. Sealants are not placed on interproximal surfaces. True
  4. If a tooth has no pits or fissures sealants should not be placed. True

9.      Why should fluoride be administered after placing sealants?

 Because the fluoride would help the tooth resist etching.

10.  Etchant is dabbed on tooth for 20-30 seconds, what is etch?

 Phosphoric acid.

11.  How long do you rinse tooth after it has been etched?

20-30 Seconds then dry.

12.  Area must be kept dry to apply sealant, how can sealant be applied?

Paint on with brush, or apply with explorer.

13.  Can sealants be applied to tooth that was not etched?

 NO

14.  How long is light placed to sealant for polymerization?

20-40 seconds per tooth.

15.  After applying sealant what should be done before pt leaves?

 Air inhibited layer should be removed and occlusion should be checked.

16. What is used to clean the tooth in prep for sealants?

Pumice because its fluoride free.
