Notes on Diabetes (1999)
I don't know if these will
help you out but just in case, I added them onto the
site. These are just notes that I took in class in
different formats.
Precautions:
- Find out what type
- How often do they see physician?
- Controlled?
- Have they eaten?
- When did they take their insulin?
Consult: Judgment call
Pre-med: normally no -- If uncontrolled/severe, then yes to prevent infection.
- Diabetics prone to infection
- **Keep stress down in appointment
Modifications:
- Less stressful appointments (shorter appointments, AM appointments)
- Appointment after eating a meal
- Quadrant scaling or half the mouth
- Be prepared for diabetic emergency
**Sugar cube
**juice - Do not scale entire mouth
**Scale, then check healing later - postpone fluoride if tissue inflamed
- Prone to periodontal disease
